My reading group had permission to go to the school library alone as long as we stayed in line and didn't talk in the halls. Turns out that Coach, the gym teacher, had a free period and turned on the radio in his office so that was how he was the first to hear. He ran out to the closest classroom and told that 6th grade teacher who ran straight to the library to tell the librarian and so that's how we kids heard. So we forgot our instructions and ran straight to our classroom at the far end of the hall to tell our teacher who ran out to find out more.

I still remember sitting in the gym waiting for the buses, all of us were scared. Turns out that my mother had already heard from her sobbing neighbor. And I saw Lee Harvey Oswald shot live on TV.
