I have been arguing all along that we cannot get out of this situation until the Democratic Party has a clear leader that can be the force that FDR was. Kennedy was on his way, and that is probably why he was killed. LBJ was pretty strong. The rest of the Dem Presidents just haven't presented much backbone, and relied too much on the fiction of the rule of law and the system that would always right itself.
I guess my early resistance to Prizker was that he seemed a little simple -- a "big dumb guy" so to speak, a guy whose heart was in the right place, but maybe didn't grasp big strategies and maybe unable to deliver big messages.
I am coming to the view that I was wrong about the guy in every respect. He is quite smart and can be very articulate. But he is able to present himself in a simple way that, I believe, could really grow on the public. I appreciate everything that Newsom is doing, and I would certainly do everything in my power to get him elected if he is ever a presidential candidate. But I am coming to the position that I much prefer Pritzker's tougher appearance over Newsom's slick persona. I think Pritzker has a real opportunity to play this "Trump Chicago invasion" to his strong advantage. I'd like to see him mobilize the forces under his control to cut ICE down to size.
In my hallucinations about the future, I see a campaign where Pritzker basically puts Vance and any other GOP contenders "on trial".
