2. As a J-school graduate, I can no longer watch the local news.

There may be a tidbit of hard news in between the time wasted on infotainment. People's attention spans must be in the shitter.

Here in Chicago, there's usually a McDonald's story probably because there a big advertiser and are headquartered here. Then there's the frequent firefighters rescue cat from tree or other soft news story that doesn't belong on a half hour news broadcast. Weather and sports updates typically take up 1/3 of the entire broadcast.

It's frustrating to someone educated in hard news and analysis, revelations like The Pentagon Papers, etc. They're catering to an audience who can't process complex information.
