Ultimately, there will be no great mind or grand plan. What will stop them will be the same thing that has stopped past horrors -- The Sleeping Giant of the American People Roars.

But it doesn't happen overnight. And it doesn't happen on its own. The tipping point comes from countless conversations, and countless people doing their bits of good where they are. Fight not to fall into cynicism and hopelessness or get too exhausted by the overwhelm of it all. Pay attention to the wins. Ariella Elm's daily round up helps me.

When you see those around you losing heart, find ways to help them recapture faith in each other and the will to stay in the game in some way.

One neighbor of mine grew food for the local food bank. You might wonder how does that stop the brown shirts? It helps spread our faith in each other. And that is what we need to turn the tide. It is the antidote to hopelessness and the zero sum view of the world. We each must find the things we can do, and feel good about doing. Another example is printing and distributing message cards as part of the Card Campaign for Democracy.

We will never know how close or far we are from the Sleeping Giant Roaring so loud it turns the tide until it happens. We each just need to know it IS coming as long as we keep doing what we can. The only way we lose is by withdrawing and staying silent as those around us withdraw.

“Do your little bit of good where you are; it's those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”
― Desmond Tutu
