He spent hours every day on the radio setting the table for the behavior we see from those people. He had the largest right-wing audience and for all followers in RW media to get a share of that audience, they had to dive down into scum to appeal.

Before him, republicans were already good at condescending to everyone else and scapegoating minorities, but for Limbaugh and his ilk, that wasn't ugly enough.
