Cologne is local by comparison with, say, Frankfurt am Main, but as I remember it was something of a trek from Ratingen.

I also recall a discussion of how to spell Neandert[h]al. One of my biologist friends explained that a specific epithet like neanderthalensis, once named, can never be changed. So the "h" will always be there.
