11 yrs old!
Actually my dad sort of dragged me 😄 around our apt building slipping flyers for local candidates 🤔 when I was 12 yrs old.
Some memories...
My parents esp my mom being home during the day were watching news about The McCarthy HUAC hearings.
When Bobby started running at some point she said to me, "He's changed".
(Vs his "ruthless" image). Before he announced there was a late night radio talker who had a lot of JFK's people on. Would he run?
So I was following his campaign. I didn't go to see him at The Greek Parade (April) figuring I'd see him when he'd campaign in NYC for NYS Primary (sigh).
June 4 - I went to bed w my dad's transistor radio. Woke up w a weird stomach ache around 4am (was around the time of the atrocity) but didn't turn on the radio.
So my sis woke me up morning June 5th told me what happened. Walked around like a zombie in HS. I think I hung out w a friend after school both of us miserable.
Back to sleep at night. Woke up again around w 4am w weird stomach ache. Only this time I turned the radio on. "He was 42" (Frank MacKowitz)
Was ?!.... So much for sleep.
Back to school. Worse zombie like.
.
Anyway went to St Patrick with a friend. Went down to 34th as the funeral procession headed to Penn St.
Then, watched the whole Train travel to DC, Arlington resentfully having to study for PSATs in our extra room, while everyone else (parents, and sis) watched in the living room.
Never forgotten.
While it is Chris Matthew's he wrote a )
(title close to) - RFK: A Raging Spirit.
Covered from childhood onward till deciding to run in '68.
One of the most interesting things was he was a gentle child. But his father Hated that! So he toughened himself up, and hid his true nature. But after JFK's assassination - that shell it started to crack open .
