Nostradumbass was deliberately INITIALLY not mentioned at my 50th college reunion: [View all]

But I’ll tell you that during various speeches and lectures, people alluded to the toxicity for academia and intellectualism in this environment. It is a university in Upstate New York, which sounds like the beginning of a Letter to the Editor in Penthouse magazine (some of you will know exactly what I’m referring to). It has always been an extraordinarily progressive school in many respects, and I’m deeply appreciative of how they treated me as a student from a low-income household.

I could go on and on but I will only say two things: the academic world is very different than it was in 1975 and it occurred to me that when I graduated, the 50th reunion class that year would have been the Class of 1925. Something to consider, there.

And secondly, we got old. Initially I thought most of us looked pretty well for age, but the class photo revealed otherwise. Oh well…no complaints: 200 of our 795 graduates were listed as deceased, including many of my acquaintances. Glad to still be around.
