In reply to the discussion: Sinclair's ABC stations back out of airing Charlie Kirk tribute in Jimmy Kimmel's time slot at the last minute [View all]Collimator
(1,988 posts)34. Needless to say, I won't be watching any such tributes. . .
. . . But it IS news and should be covered. Airing it in Kimmel's time slot would be nothing more than a fuck you and everybody knows it.
As others have alluded to, putting together any tribute to Kirk comes with complications. It would be very sparse indeed if it didn't include some of his most inflammatory quotes. That was the man's bread and butter, after all.
And once his actual words are out there, trying to cast him as a unifier/secular saint becomes pretty ridiculous. The people who were devoted to him wouldn't be chagrinned, but folks tuning in just because it IS news will hear things that might make them squirm a bit.
