At least from what has been reported, he was from a Right wing, Mormon, gun loving family. I don't know how he identifies his sexual orientation, but his romantic relationship is at odds with how he was brought up.

I can't imagine being a preteen/teen realizing that being who you are means rejecting at least some of what you grew up believing and knowing your family could not really accept you for who you are. Adolescence is a tough time for many, but it has to be harder to not fit in the rigid culture he was born in.

The Utah Governor and some in his family, spoke of his leftish ideology. Yet, this is someone who did not vote. He clearly still supported gun rights. I wonder if the ONLY "leftish" value was LBGTQ+. and that was because of where he was.
