(111,202 posts)2. Me. I was monitoring blog posts from physicians at Memorial Hospital. It was absolutely devastating..
-as was the general posting from those monitoring the horror at the SuperDome, on the bridges, and those witnessing the dead on sidewalks, in the water- sadly falling prey to alligators, the abuse by police, and the general horror that seemed never to end.
The internet was not as ubiquitous as today, and social media was nonexistent, but blogs/forum posts were a frequent source of real-time info. But, it was the first disaster of that size that allowed for those outside to have some information from those impacted in real time--and without filters from media, police, or officials.
