Another weary day [View all]

I wake up, hit the coffee pot, day, well, whatever of the Trump regime. Yesterday's scandal is already being being overrun by the gish gallop of today's horrible news, all blurring together into one formless mass of disgust and despair.

Democrat issue their usual pious platitudes, but little real fight seems to be forthcoming. Ooo, but Newsom really got him with that zinger! I still turn out for protests, write my Congress critters, but it all seems like such an exercise in futility. Protests coverage is slim to nonexistent, and writing red state Congressmen, sheesh, at best I'm putting myself on some secret enemies list so I can be rounded up in the future and rendered into liberal biodiesel.

I do look to my mental and physical health, and with twenty acres to take care of, there's always plenty to do. Care for my fruit groves, tend the garden, mowing, pruning, planting, the familiar tasks follow the turn of the seasons, in a comforting routine. I walk, and talk, to my dog, play with my new kitten, cuddle with the other cats, all of this helps me keep my sanity.

Yet my frustration and despair grows. Nobody and nothing seems to be making a dent in, or slowing down the progress of this steamroller of a fascist regime. They break laws with impunity, they continue to shred the Constitution, they ignore court rulings they don't like, yet nothing concrete is being done to stop the madness. The best hope on the horizon is Trump's declining health, hoping that with his death the insanity will stop. But it won't, I tell you now, it won't. JD Vance was put in place by Thiel and his tech bro masters to fully remake America into their oligarch image. They placed a bet on Vance that Trump would die and Vance would get two and a half terms to give America a dictatorial makeover, and if you think "surely Vance can't get elected president," I have news for you, between big money, gerrymandering, voter suppression and voter intimidation, Vance has it locked up.

It seems like the only way out of this mess is a revolution, a civil war, or the US collapses under the weight of corruption and greed. Think I'm being too cynical, too pessimistic? Well, I've been a cynical, pessimistic SOB for the better part of sixty-odd years now, and the sad reality is that reality outpaces my bleakness, foreboding, and everything. I'm not just a student of history, but have taught it, and I see the US going down a well trodden path to destruction.

Don't get me wrong, this is not a cry to throw in the towel and give up, I'm certainly not, and I urge you not to either. This is just an assessment, yes a very bleak one, of where we are and where we're going. I'm too mean to give up, it is my civic duty not to do so. This is just me venting, getting something off my chest. I still hold onto hope, faint hope, that somehow this will all get turned around. But this is the culmination of over fifty years of work by the least among us to create another oligarchy, and it may very well take that long to turn things back towards the light.

Anyway, thanks for reading, and for letting me vent here. If you don't like what I've said, well that's OK, I really don't like it either. It's just reality as I see it, your mileage may vary. Have a good day, go pet a dog, play with a cat if you can, it always perks me right up, it will do the same for you as well. Cheers!
