(113,863 posts)but it's not going to be at the same intensity it was before the calendar changed. We're on the down slope now, the scions of the toothy televangelist just not being up to the job since they lack the old man's charisma.
The good thing about political cults of personality is the mortality of their leaders, also. Once Fearless Leader gets old, sick, and weak, people tend to drift away. If he's killed off by an ambitious sycophant, that sycophant usually finds himself at the wrong end of a firing squad, but that's just for old time's sake, political cultists actively searching for Fearless Leader's replacement, anyway.
We're still on the flip side of all of this shit because once again, we have survived the change of a calendar prefix.While cults of personality will still arise when some charismatic goofball appears and uses his boundless optimism to sucker the gullible. However, the standards will be higher and the free floating anxiety will be lessened and fewer of them will succeed.
