U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday announced he is placing the Washington, DC police department under direct federal control and is deploying National Guard troops to the city.
Trump invoked the D.C. Home Rule Act of 1973 on Monday, which allows the president to assume temporary control over the city’s police department in emergency situations.
"Crime is out of control," Trump said during his address. He also added that he’s willing to ’bring in the military if needed."
The president’s actions specifically target the DC police department and do not extend federal control to the entire city.

This could be a test case for similar in other big cities.
The legalities would be different but that wouldn't stop Trump.
The rhetoric would be something like "well it worked in DC".
Somebody please tell me I'm just being paranoid.
