(2,411 posts)I don't think Trump’s cognitive abilities and competence matter at all. It seems to me he is lying, and lying with a purpose, and is discovering that he doesn't even have to work very hard at it to be successful. His supporters admire the way he "owns" his opponents, and his opponents are distracted by the word salad and then head off down a dead end street, endlessly wallowing in the self congratulatory rite of pointing out "what a moron he is!" That weakens us and strengthens his base. His supporters think he is being persecuted, and his opponents think they have somehow "won" somehow when it is shown what an idiot he is.
This constant drumbeat of "he's losing it" is just a way of avoiding facing reality.
Trump is extremely dangerous, and continues to be extremely successful. Whether or not he is a clown, an idiot, demented, incoherent, or whatever is complexity irrelevant.
