I have no connections to the Middle East, never been there, speak no Semitic languages.

My younger daughter and her family do have friends there, or at least who have part time residences there. They happened to be visiting some of them on October 7th, would have “been there” if they had found a baby sitter. Two of their friends were the ones in the famous incident where two guys in a car ran over and killed two assailants chasing them on a motorcycle, shooting at them with machine guns.

None of them were dancing around and celebrating at any Arab injuries or deaths, not even the ones who escaped the motorcycle attack. No matter the reality on the ground, as long as there are those who openly celebrate the violent death of Israelis, while there will be no dancing in the streets of Jerusalem or Central Park over children dying in Gaza, as long as there gleeful articles such as the one from this BBC “journalist,” I can well imagine that the impulse to condemn Israeli actions will continue to be subdued in some circles.
