Trump Orders Federal DEI Staff to be Placed on Administrative Leave

Donald Trump issued an order placing all federal Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) staff on administrative leave as of 5pm on Wednesday. It is the first move in the removal of DEI programs, contracts and grants throughout all federal departments. Departments must also remove all marketing materials for DEI programs by the deadline.

The move follows an executive order entitled, "Ending Radical and Wasteful Government DEI Programs and Preferencing," undoing President Biden's order encouraging diversification in hiring in federal departments and tracking progress toward that goal.

The order also gives 60 days for the termination of DEI and "environmental justice " programs and grants stating, "terminate, to the maximum extent allowed by law, all DEI, DEIA, and 'environmental justice' offices and positions (including but not limited to 'Chief Diversity Officer' positions); all 'equity action plans,' 'equity' actions, initiatives, or programs, 'equity-related' grants or contracts; and all DEI or DEIA performance requirements for employees, contractors, or grantees."

Federal employees are also ordered to report if DEI efforts continue in departments in secret through the use of "coded language."
