Related: About this forumNo, Trump CAN'T Cancel or Terminate Pardons Issued by Joe Biden or Any Other President! - Glenn Kirschner
In an obvious attempt to distract from any number of dumpster fires going on in the Trump administration - the Epstein files, the murderous Venezuelan boat strikes, or maybe just his inability to stay awake during his own cabinet meetings - Donald Trump posted to social media that he will be terminating all pardons and commutations issued by Joe Biden in the event he used an autopen to sign them.
Trump is forever exposing himself as not knowing what he's talking about, not to mention being supremely unfit for office, because a president of the United States has no lawful authority to revoke a pardon or commutation issued by a prior president.
I just sat down with my friend, law, professor, and constitutional scholar Kim Whaley to discuss this topic.
Kim has authored a wonderful, authoritative book on the pardon power titled (appropriately), "Pardon Power: How The Pardon System Works - And Why." - Glenn Kirschner - 12/04/2025.

(17,796 posts)1. Can't? Of course he can, just not legitimately
He does whatever his mood swings tell him to do, and the doj backs him. Then its off to the courts where he lies, obfuscates, and ignores rulings. Eventually scotus weighs in, but by then the damage to individuals is extreme.
The cost to individuals is both financial and emotional. And that is the point. Cruelty is the goal, the legal system is the process.

(8,573 posts)2. Can you imagine the chaos if a President could do that?
All the people a President pardoned could be brought back to prison by the next President, and then freed again by the next one, and then back again....and so on.
As awful as it is to see the way Trump abuses the pardon system, I don't see it as possible.

But how many of them have committed crimes since and landed back in jail??
