for as long as I've been able to read, and I could read at 3. My right wing dad said he'd heard the same horseshit and scare tactics about it since he was a teenager and it was first set up. Republicans never change, they loathe any dollar getting away from the rich into the pockets of people who need it.

What they're talking about is the SS trust fund, an emergency fund set up because wiser people thought that having all the Boomers retired at once really would deplete the program, heaven forbid they raise the cap or tap the sainted rich. What really happened is that both parties in Congress raided that fund year after year to mask what sweetheart tax cuts to rich donors were doing to the budget. That's why the trust fund will run out, they stole it all to fatten the rich and there won't be enough coming back in for them to keep paying out.

Social Security is not an investment plan, it is insurance, like car insurance, only it covers the human problems of not being able to work in old age, of becoming disabled, or surviving the death of one or both parents. Insurance. Beat it into their stupid heads, use a brick if you have to. That's why putting it into the rich man's casino known as Wall Street is a stupid idea.

billionaires and lawyers are living longer, so we must raise the retirement age of coal miners.
