Early parliaments were crude meetings of Lords. The system we know today got a boost from the Glorious Revolution of 1688 and is really a product of the Enlightenment, which is slowly being extinguished now.

Does Roberts have dementia? His answers seem vague.

...a degree of independence...What a tease he is for democracy! But he just doesn't have the integrity to get there.
