On February 11, 2026, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) board of directors unanimously approved a request to double the electricity supplied to Elon Musk's AI company, xAI, for its Memphis data center. Coinciding with this decision to power the "Colossus" supercomputer, the TVA board voted to reverse its previous plans to shut down two major coal-fired power plants(Kingston and Cumberland), opting instead to continue operating them to meet rising electricity demand, which includes powering large AI data centers.
