in this scene. The cornfield being three things at once, sustenance, shelter, and prison while the birds were freedom.
Finally, the bottle of whiskey carried by her abusing parent could've been distilled from this same cornfield to its most toxic form during his childhood which consumed him. Symbolic of the potential for the victim to become the abuser.
That's my deep dive analysis.
