School election date, fundraising policy on deck for Mitchell school board

MITCHELL — The Mitchell Board of Education will hold its second reading of the district fundraising policy as well as set the time and date for the 2026 school board election.

The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, at Longfellow Elementary School.

The board is expected to review and possibly approve the final reading for Policy 1084, which establishes expanded requirements for fundraisers conducted by school entities and classes. The board has been discussing the issue for the last few months and approved the first reading of the new policy at its last meeting in November.

The new policy outlines purpose, scope and general guidelines for fundraising activities and procedures. A new policy form includes sections for fundraising coordinators to indicate the type of fundraiser, sections for selling projects, direct donations and event-style fundraisers such as car washes.
