Rapid City Area Schools Area 6 election recount decided by 2 votes

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - A recount was held Thursday in the race for the Area 6 seat on the Rapid City Area Schools Board.

In the initial tally back in June, Jamie Clapham defeated Brian Johnson by just three votes. The recount didn’t see much change, as this time, Clapham won by two votes, with a final tally of 546-544.

The recount was originally scheduled for June 19, but the school district’s chief financial and operations officer, Coy Sasse, said RCAS had difficulty selecting a district recount board candidate as well as logistical issues that led to it being postponed.

Thursday’s recount was held in the Pennington County Auditor’s Office, with hundreds of ballots from Pennington and Meade counties being recounted.
