So, youve decided to boycott Israel. Congratulations!
Youre now taking a bold stand against the only liberal democracy in the Middle East a tiny nation the size of New Jersey, somehow responsible for every major global injustice, including the suspicious rise in oat milk prices.
Boycotting Israel is an art form; it requires immense effort to maintain your righteousness while dodging the inconvenient realities of modern life and Jewish history.
But take heart, with a little cognitive dissonance, a lot of selective outrage, and a sprinkling of historical amnesia, you too can proudly champion the worlds most inconsistently applied moral cause.
So, where to start?
Boycotting Israel is trickier than it looks. If youre not careful, you might accidentally stumble into using Israeli products and services and nobody wants that on their conscience.

(9,160 posts)to Israel. No one is against Israel defending itself but refusal to allow aid and the needless starvation of people is a human rights violation.
If I am not allowed to express my opinion as a gentile - I apologize.

(41,867 posts)THIS IS THE JEWISH GROUP! In this group we support Jewish people, Judaism, and the State of Israel. Accusations of apartheid, genocide, or ethnic cleansing will not be tolerated. There are other forums on DU that welcome such debates. Not here.

(12,090 posts)Every contrived idiocy ever furthered to stereotype Israel as a comic book villain, all in one place, clearly outlined. A great resource!
Thank you!

(9 posts)When will people understand the difference between anti-semitism and anti-zionism?
question everything

(9,696 posts). . . Many Jews, and this is the Jewish Group, recognize that there is no difference. Anti-Zionism is Antisemitism, just hidden behind a made-up use of the word Zion and Zionism.
Let me be clear: Zion is Mount Zion, a specific location in Jerusalem where the first and second Temples were built. Zionism is the philosophy that Israel is the homeland of the Jewish people. The longing in the Jewish soul for a return to Zion is ancient. You can see it clearly in various Psalms in the Old Testament and in a great many prayers, both Jewish and Christian.
Similarly, as a political movement, it was the reestablishment and continuation of the Jewish ancestral and indigenous homeland.
It is not a far leap to recognize, therefore, that anti-Zionism contains great hatred for the history, culture, rights, and protection of the Jewish people, and is, therefore, pure antisemitism.
At this point, you might say, "But there are anti-zionist Jews", and show us photos of them. Most of that ideology comes out of a small but very outspoken and photogenic radical ultra-orthodox Hasidic sect.
What is the difference you asked about? I hope I have made is somewhat clear that for most of us, there is no difference.
I could have written pages on this topic with historical and political references. I just don't have the time.
From Psalm 137:
1 By the rivers of Babylon,
There we sat down, yea, we wept
When we remembered Zion.
2 We hung our harps
Upon the willows in the midst of it.
3 For there those who carried us away captive asked of us a song,
And those who plundered us requested mirth,
Saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion!
4 How shall we sing the Lords song
In a foreign land?
5 If I forget you, O Jerusalem,
Let my right hand forget its skill!
6 If I do not remember you,
Let my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth
If I do not exalt Jerusalem
Above my chief joy.

(9 posts)Thank you for your thoughtful reply. This world we live in is .....I have no words. I have been, am and will always be a strong supporter and defender of the Jewish people. I've toured the camps and seen what unbridled evil can do. How do we make sense of the senseless?
