Joe Burrow needs toe surgery; expected to be out for 3 months

It's Jake Browning season! Or do the Bengals go find someone else to be their starter for the bulk of the season?

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow will need toe surgery that will sideline him a minimum of three months, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Burrow suffered the turf toe injury in the first half of Cincinnati's game Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Images of his left toe were sent to noted foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson to be reviewed, sources told Schefter.

With Burrow sidelined for the majority of the season, the Bengals are expected to turn to backup Jake Browning as their starting quarterback.

How do you hurt your toe playing football? They need better shoes.

2. Burrow has a HORRIBLE offensive line in front of him

250-pound linebackers crashing down on him while he's trying to twist and turn to get away leads to all kinds of injuries.

You know. The kicker kicks the ball so it tumbles on the ground for about 5 to 10 yards hoping the opposition team fumbles it up trying to catch the bouncing ball.

Why risk a $20 million a year kicker for that short kick, when I could do it for say $5,000. I would get a few extra bucks to supplement my monthly SS check, and promise not to sue the NFL for injuries because I'm covered by Medicare. Coffee and hamburger prices are up.

"submariner" style, like the rare MLB pitcher can do with a baseball?

Did well in an extended backup role earlier. Got a 1st round restricted free agent tender from the Bengals. Signed a two year contract, but will still be a restricted free agent in 2026. Woefully underpaid at $1M/yr.

9. When I think about Joe Burrow, I can't help but think about Archie Manning.

BRILLIANT talent, and a career totally wasted on a terrible team. Others also come to mind, like Andrew Luck, but at least he had some success. Burrow, with the possible exception of Mahomes, is the best pure passer in football today, and he has to lead the offence to about 40 points a game to have a shot at winning...and do that while running for his life.

I firmly believe he should have followed Brady's example and negotiated his contract to more realistic levels to leave more cap space to sign better players. I haven't looked up the comparison, but I'd be willing to make a (small) bet (I might be wrong) that Burrows and others in the stratosphere of salaries make more every year than Joe Montana earned in his career. If not, certainly a comparable amount.

Andrew Luck called it a career at age 29.

Joe Burrow, also often injured due to a lack of protection, is now 28.

I found DU by frequenting Truthout, largely, but not completely, due to WRP. One day, I saw a link "Conservative Idiots Of The Week", which sounded promising, and that got me hooked on DU.

I miss that old feature, but still love DU.

13. Joe had negotiated a contract better structured for the club's benefit, but the NFLPA shot it down.

Might have set a bad precedent of players taking less to help out their clubs. Can't have that.
