living in grief

i have lived in grief allowing it to rest a cape
covering the shoulders the heart and the soul
to choose to cling as long as possible letting
the rain of sympathy wash down off and over
all worn gray and threadbare ripped and torn
protecting me from myself from the unknown
that might take this grief from me leaving me
naked and exposed to a reality of life’s storm
as lightning flashes blind eyes cannot respond
thunder crashes yet deaf ears can never flinch
unfelt icy rain runs down an unfeeling ice face
smell no scent no aromas of life or love reach
wait a cold drop hits my chest spreading wider
i am now living in fear of whatever is to come
