the retreat continues the motion of forever fleeing
debris litters the lost path the dead and the dying
victory no longer a notion the time of spirit freeing
a point of the empty empath a task for the trying
an end now growing nearer exhaustion dominates
haunted faces hiding a hope that no longer exists
one step further death clearer depression escalates
losing every ability to cope seeking the final abyss
the sullen sound of surrender echoes in each heart
glance either right or left may as well be forbidden
no one remains to remember the onset of the start
limbs and breasts are cleft a trace of glory hidden
who will recall the last battle in the horror and heat
as the disciplined cattle slaughtered for the meat
