Isolation
I have no friends
As I lie in my rotted hovel
On my back
Subjugated to my own weaknesses
My greed, my avarice
Destroyed me
Now I am a slave
When I once was free.
I reached out to my many enemies
They rejected me with smiles
Knowing they could steal my wealth
Without me even knowing
I rejected my former friends
Called them weak and pompous
Criticized their humanity
Until they fled away to others
There is now no one who will trust me
But I don’t care
I am still the strongest, the wealthiest
At least in my own mind
I wrap myself in old traditions
As I look out upon my world
Now they are my only warmth
Isolated in the cold
I am the only one that matters
But what happens when all attack?
No one will defend me
I will be shattered, beaten down
And all remaining will be ashes
From the flames that burn my home
All life severed from the heart
Nothing left at all.
