bitter

there is a taste of bitter living deep in the heart
dominating life’s flavor as it settles in the mind
coloring the soul a flitter setting shadows apart
with nothing else to savor no sweetness to find
this touch of bitter grows covers all other taste
creeping in as if a poison and it is slowly killing
the part that still knows a price of wanton waste
hanging on thin air noisome corruption spilling
a divide of evil or good a gesture of devil or god
wallowing in dim regrets pulling emotion inwards
pretending all is understood acknowledging fraud
a pause where all reflects over a choice of words
to trace a map of the tongue over a love lost soul
to intone as praises are sung from a cracked bowl
