This Isolated Planet

A particle of dust in an infinite room
Indistinct and nondescript
Easily missed
In the vastness of the universe

Far from a livable planet
No way to reach in a single lifetime
Generations would be needed
To find a home near another star

Alone we sit in the sea of blackness
As far as we can tell
Isolated on our tiny world
Guarded by thin atmosphere

--

Why then would we destroy
This only world we have?
When all resources have disappeared
We will have nothing left

We can’t escape, nowhere else to go
But we ignore the truth
Our lives are here, so delicate
We, the feeble and dependent

On this isolated planet
There is no escape
After all we have is destroyed
By our senseless human greed.
