the past has piled up behind the years in a crumbling heap
it collects scraps and debris leaning upon a weakened soul
and no careful search can find delving in the dark and deep
one single memory nor plea no matter the depth of the hole
a futile glimpse flashes briefly bright colors catch the eyes
a half remembered piece of paper with the writing blurred
reaching the sharp edge chiefly to prove this life is not lies
the blood spilled turned to vapor a heart just barely stirred
hopes are buried at the bottom all failures seeking the peaks
unanswered questions grow bolder and doubts begin to flood
disgust in this uncertain rotten bit a rusty hinge pintle creaks
as drowning waters flow colder tinged by the dripping blood
make the choice of either letting go or of a grim dragging on
adrift the hours of dreading grow as horrors are hanging wan
