hopes wants wishes dreams

as i grow older i wonder about the short future
a time in which life is suddenly winding down
looking at what plunder accumulated by nature
to chop off with a knife or to gather all around
numbers of needs decrease as hopes are dashed
the fewer wants unimportant and less desired
grudgingly desist decease all gutted and trashed
standing in false deportment so dully uninspired
as the wishes and dreams fade into an old past
a place of misspent youth and wasted attempts
creating plans and schemes that would not last
hiding the false from truth now the spirit relents
a few wants remain inside as feeble fingers clutch
a secret face that will abide not showing too much
