in the circle

the circle lives inside each human from birth to death
holding and nurturing giving a center in which to hide
a place where dreams reach and multiply every breath
creates the hope of the living and keeps memory inside
the circle contains experience both the truths and lies
all recalled forgotten mingled safely not heard nor seen
to pick or choose in convenience in the human disguise
a fact needed to be singled out the innocent or obscene
the circle is slowly shrinking in age all that is forgotten
bits and pieces lay scattered as shards of shining glass
a miasma foul and stinking become decayed and rotten
each speck a dream shattered lost deep in the morass
the circle constantly manipulated mutated and revised
to defeat life yet not capitulated and loved and despised
