thrown away

all of the things once saved have been thrown away
the piles grow larger higher and much more unstable
a job that once it is braved becomes a dragon to slay
the flames leach to a pyre to burn both fact and fable
when the sorting is done this triage of useless items
which to be saved to wonder or sure to be discarded
divided down a single crumb as a sad heart tightens
the weight of the soul under the thoughts unguarded
what catches the eye to hold on and to desire to keep
a little flick of memory bared to grasp once more hope
secret notes that won’t unfold words to crawl or creep
another feature to be scarred as gestures cannot cope
sitting alone in an ancient room filled with the ghosts
mulling deep within a gloom of craven unwilling hosts
