Related: About this forumQuestion about transporting firearms
I have inherited about a dozen sporting guns some antiques, a .22 rifle, shotguns, a couple handguns and I am planning on driving from Iowa to Oregon with them in the back of my Honda CR-V. Is this legal? Do I have to have them in some kind of lockbox?
Thanks for any help on this.

(36,145 posts)are working and drive with in the speed limits. Do not give any reason to get pulled over.
Also I wouldnt have any amo in the car. Out of state cars are more likely to get stopped.
Be a good idea to have them in boxes and out of site.

(13,639 posts)But the main thing is that if you are transporting firearms to a state wher they are legal (no issue with what you describe) you are allowed to transport them EVEN THROUGH STATES WHERE THEY ARE NOT LEGAL
Just don't stay over night in the state where they're banned
In general firearms need to be unloaded and in a trunk or locked case mounted in a pick up trucks bed. That takes care of 90% or so of the laws.
an Iowa to Oregon drive runs through pro-gun right states so I doubt you'll have any issues

18 U.S. Code § 926A - Interstate transportation of firearms
The short interpretation:
If you are travelling from point A to point B AND you are legally allowed to own/possess a firearm in both points A and B, you are in compliance with the law and allowed passage. make sure that you have the firearms locked in your trunk and not in the glove box or center console.
