Laurie lets them out for an hour or so, adapting to being back on pasture.
Time to graze.

After a bit, Maddie stopped, looking for a place to roll.

She found it.

Switching sides.

The blissfulness of a "joy roll".

She and Pete grazed their way to the far fence. Ran out
of good grass. Maddie decided to head back in.

Pete turned around, spotted his girl and raced to catch up.

They passed by the spot where Maddie had rolled.

She shed some winter hair that day.

Shadow watched from the barn, where she was tied up
due to her bad habit of chasing the horses.

"The kids" enjoyed a little more munching before returning to their pen.

And daddy freed his puppydog. We made our way back to the house.

Thank You for your time. We'll see you next Friday.

(15,113 posts)Im so jealous!
We lost our sweet Palomino Mustang, Belle, last month, 6 weeks and 5 days short of her 40th birthday. It has been a few years since she could do her joy roll but she was a joy every day. My only horse was my heart horse.
Thank you for my horse fix.

(12,321 posts)Friday. Feel free to look up past postings. I'm sorry for your Belle. She lived a long life. How nice that she brought joy every day. Thank You for replying. Love your emoticons!

(15,113 posts)I will definitely look up past postings. I'm glad I caught this one!
I met Belle in 2008 at her 2nd owner's place and we fell in love at first sight, even though I was never around horses. They had to sell her 2 years later, and I was faced with either buying her or never seeing her again. We had just finished our barn, so it all made sense. She was old and sick then, so we never expected to get another 15 1/2 years with her! She got healthier and thrived right up until the end. She was sweet and goofy, and everyone who met her loved her.
Somehow it helps to look at other horses, especially young ones who move so easily. Belle got along great, but it's so gradual with old animals that it's easy to forget that they USED to run and jump and roll. And, yes, she had a very long life, unusually long in fact. She was not robbed. We just miss her like crazy.
