Any cooking superstitions out there?

I have two.
The first is I can't close and put away the flour container before I have mixed the liquid into pancakes. I just know I will put in too much liquid and have to pull the flour out again.

The second is my French toast batter has to be made in an old Marie Calendar's pie tin. Mine is at least 20 years old and been used on 2 continents. Perfect for putting slice bread in the batter before the pan.

Bay leaves have gotten a bit pricey from what I remember. Of course if you buy them every 10 years price hikes look huge.

I’ve been thinking about growing one, I’d have to winter in the house. I use way too much, love bay. Just made a chicken, mostly mushroom, garden vegetables, wild rice soup. In an eight quart pot I used seven leaves. I buy in bulk at Spice Jungle online. Been doing business with them for a very long time, it’s a Michigan company so it’s kinda like buying local.

More like a habit.

Anything fried must be cooked in grandpa’s 100-year old cast iron pan. Anything sautéed must be cooked in the stainless steel pan with the heavy base.

Kind of weird.

Heat retention when you put food into the oil, Although I don't know of any data showing any difference between quality pans of any source.

I watched a show as a youngster about rice workers in China. I thought they were picking individual kernels and have never allowed myself to waste one or even leave one on my plate. Their efforts could not be neglected. I am the same way with coffee beans.

I never waste any.

I think of the villagers in "The Seven Samurai" who scrimped and scrounged some rice to offer the prospective mercenaries, while they got by on millet.

I like millet sometimes, though.
