9 POTPOURRIS! ( Make Your Place Smell Like Christmas 24/7)! 🌞

If “Christmas” had a smell, this would be it: citrus, cinnamon, pine, and cloves swirling together.

Stovetop Christmas Potpourri

Fill a pot with water, then drop in whatever smells like the holidays to you: cinnamon sticks (a great use for those old ones in the back of the pantry), orange peels, a handful of cranberries, pine sprigs, cloves, nutmeg, or even a sprig of rosemary. Set the pot to a gentle simmer on the stove or use a slow cooker on Low. Don’t cover it. Tat steam is what carries the fragrance through your home. Check occasionally to make sure it hasn’t boiled dry, and top off the water as needed.

If you’d rather follow a recipe, here’s my favorite blend:

2 oranges, sliced
3 cinnamon sticks
1 cup cranberries
3 teaspoons ground cloves
2 teaspoons nutmeg
2 sprigs fresh rosemary

Add everything to a pot or slow cooker, fill with water to about an inch below the rim, and let it simmer away. It’ll last for up to three days. Just keep refilling the water. This is one of the easiest ways to make your house smell like Christmas naturally and beautifully.

Pro Tip: When you’re done, don’t toss it right away. Strain and cool the mix, then pour the liquid into a spray bottle for a quick DIY room spray.

Fall Simmering Stove Top Potpourri

is a blend of warm spices, dried herbs, and fresh orange peel.
I absoultly love this mixture of ingredients for the fall time.
If you love the smell of cinnamon, you are going to love it too.
The surprise ingredient in this potpourri is dried bay leaves.
The leaves really just add so much depth to this stove top potpourri.

In a small sauce pot I add 2 to 3 star anise, which has a licorice scent, 3 cinnamon sticks, 3 to 5 dried bay leaves, 1 tablespoon ground cloves, and the peel from 1 orange. Fill the pot to the top with water. Place the pot on the stove over very low heat. On my gas stove you can’t even see a flame. The potpourri will come to a simmering boil and let it go until all of the water has evaporated. You can continue to fill the pot with water and let it simmer on the stove all day.

Citrus Potpourri

1. Dry some whole clementines, kumquats, orange and lemon
slices and orange and lemon peels.

2. Place materials in a medium-sized mixing bowl.

3. Sprinkle 10 drops of orange essential oil and 5 drops of
lemon essential oil.

4. Keep bowl covered until needed, and refresh with a few
more drops of oil as necessary.

Pine Potpourri

1. Collect pinecones and a few small branches of any fragrant
evergreens, such as pine, juniper, and cypress.

2. Place materials in a medium-sized mixing bowl.

3. Sprinkle 10 drops of pine essential oil and 5 drops of cedar
essential oil.

4. Keep bowl covered until needed, and refresh with a few more
drops of oil as necessary.

These blends are also, of course, totally customizable. For the
citrus option, try tangerine, grapefruit or lime oils. The pine
blend would also work beautifully with juniper and fir oils. Also,
dried whole herbs, thistles, berries and dried flowers and pods
can replace any of the natural materials suggested above.
Essential oils are readily available at natural food stores or
online from Aura Cacia, Mountain Rose Herbs and Simplers.

Peppermint Candy Cane Delight Potpourri Recipe For Christmas

With this festive potpourri, you can infuse your home with the delightful
and revitalizing aroma of sugar cane.

To begin, place a handful of fresh peppermint leaves in a small pot and
as they boil, the leaves will exude a bright, minty aroma.

For a creamy, sweet undertone that counterbalances the peppermint
and adds a warm, Christmas twist, add a teaspoon of vanilla essence.

Drop a few broken bits of sugar cane into the stew to
evoke the sentimental spirit of Christmas.

The candy canes will melt and add a sweet, minty scent
to the mixture that is warm and pleasant, evoking traditional
Christmas sweets.

Fill the pot with water, keeping it on low heat, and let
the blend simmer gently.

Be sure to top up the water as needed to keep the
potpourri fresh and fragrant.

This light yet sweet minty blend will fill your space with
the scent of Christmas cheer, perfect for brightening
cold winter days and setting a festive, joyful mood.

I have only ever seen one on a lot once in all my years and I kept it until almost all of its needles had fallen off. I can't begin to describe it, but have a look for one if you're on a tree lot. Or a sniff, more to the point.

I love Xmas potpourris too, btw. Thank you for the post!
