What's for Dinner, Thurs., July 31, 2025

Baba ganoush, using Mollie Katzen's recipe. Bought some pita bread at TJ's that I will use, along with a few flatbread crackers.

Cucumber salad with red onion and vinegar.

Kombucha: pomegranate.

Dessert: Raspberry lime spritzer and cantaloupe with mint.

We had a huge thunderstorm this afternoon. State of emergency called (again).

Our friends from Mumbai are visiting and invited several of us to their hotel suite for dinner! It should be fascinating!

get a chance today before the storm to use your new weed wacker? I never did get around to using mine. I did use my battery powered push mower around the pond and pulled up unwanted weeds growing between the rocks. Cool day, but I still had to jump in the pond to cool off.

Tonight I am having green beans and polish sausage for dinner. I have cantaloupe prepared for a snack later.

Do you ever have to do anything to keep it algae-free? The reflection with the trees is amazing. It wouldn't look that way if it had algae.

Yes, we did have flooding, and the major highway to NYC is closed down for that reason. I saw a video on the Facebook page of nj.com (the only page they let you go on without a subscription) and it was right by the exit to my house! Water was up to the halfway point on the concrete median separating east from west, and in one spot they showed, it was at the top.

Nope, didn't get a chance to try out the new weedwacker but the cool air rushed in after the storm and I was out there pulling weeds. Filled up an entire plastic tub of them!

looking good. Copper sulfate crystals will keep the pond algae free. The trick is how much and how often to apply. When the water warms up, pond muck down deep releases a scum that rises to the surface. This can be kept under control by adding a Pond Boss 5 pd block. It's good bacteria that breaks down the mucky bottom. You would be surprised how many people I've never met before ask me what they need to do to make their pond look good. I'm bragging, but I take pride in my little pond. Had a guy stop today and said I had the perfect retirement home.

Stay safe and keep dry.

Most of them. I cooked eggplant, zucchini, onion, tomato and sweet peppers in a skillet, put some kielbasa in and had it over pasta with some Mozzarella.
I'm petsitting, so I brought my perishables along. There really is a cheese tax! Lol

Was so glad we’re finally getting some rain today and the temperature at noon was 60 degrees, when over the past week it would’ve been between 85-90. A big pot of minestrone was in order so I got all the ingredients together and whipped up a big pot in about an hour. Fresh minced oregano, basil and chives from my garden were added as soon as I turned off the heat so their essence would prevail. Had toasted sprouted multigrain bread to sop up the broth and a nice Cabernet to savor the cool spell. Cheers! 🍷

stacked, rather than rolled, since we got the smaller tortillas at the Mexican grocery the last time we were there. Leftover chicken, red onion, avocado, and Swiss cheese.
