(255 posts)Sorry I'm late to the party. Lots going on and I don't get a chance to log in very often.
I made a video and posted it about a PRIDE memory of Tommy and Me but I can't post it on this site. It would probably get me booted BUT I talk about what pride means to me. Here's some of the words to it,
" There's a reason we have a RAINBOW UMBRELLA, if we cant shield all, then we put down that umbrella and lock arms and weather the storms together until we all stand under the RAINBOW after the storms!" Then I spoke about we as a marginalized people and explained what that means to me, " When I say ALL of a marginalized people, let me tell you who we are! We have been here since the beginning of humanity! We are of every continent of the world! We speak every language! We are of every religion and non-religious groups. We are of every skin tone and every culture. and YES we are of EVERY GENDER! Our Transgender Brothers and Sisters are our FAMILY! If we cannot shield ALL then we lock arms and we weather those storms until WE ALL STAND UNDER THAT RAINBOW!"
I hope you don't mind me sharing. Tommy and I had our first experience of activism at the October, 1987 March in Washington DC. We went there with the intent to march for marriage equality and received a larger education than we expected. We learned that we were there to support the entire population of people we all are! I will never forget those memories! I miss those days. Maybe after I recover from mourning his death and some other things I will become active again.
Thank You and HAPPY PRIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
