Cuba Runs Dry - Joe Blogs
Cuba is facing a rapidly escalating crisis as fuel shortages ripple through the economy, grounding flights, paralysing transport, and pushing the country toward austerity.
A tightening US blockade has severely restricted Cubas ability to import fuel, leading to rationing, rolling blackouts, and emergency government measures. Airlines have begun cancelling services after airports warned that jet fuel is no longer reliably available, dealing a major blow to tourism one of Cubas most important sources of foreign currency.
In this video, I examine how flight cancellations threaten the tourism industry, why Canada plays such a critical role in visitor numbers, and what this means for Cubas already fragile finances. I also look at the governments response: fuel purchase limits at petrol stations, the suspension of national bus services, and the move to a four-day working week for state-run enterprises.
With people struggling to travel, businesses cutting hours, and infrastructure under strain, the situation is deteriorating quickly. Unless fuel supplies are restored in the near term, Cuba risks a far deeper economic collapse and the emergence of a full-scale humanitarian crisis.
