Amtrak sues Metro-North over access to routes
NEW YORK Amtrak is suing the Metro-North Railroad, saying the Metropolitan Transportation Authority commuter operator will not allow tests of NextGen Acela trains on Metro-North routes.
In a suit filed on Wednesday, April 22, in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, Amtrak is seeking an injunction allowing it to operate non-revenue trains on Metro-North routes until the matter can be settled by arbitration. The filing says arbitration is required to settle the dispute under contracts governing its use of Metro-Norths New Haven and Hudson lines.
Amtrak said in a statement that Metro-Norths actions are violating agreements weve had in place for more than 35 years, causing escalating harm to Amtraks operations, undermining safety-critical rail activity, disrupting service needed by millions of passengers, and putting the reliability of intercity rail service at risk. ..............(more)
