Record Breaking Hydrogen Bus Revealed in Eureka
Liam Gwynn | RedwoodNews.tv | May 31, 2025
Today was the ribbon cutting for Humboldt County's very first hydrogen powered bus and the nation's longest range hydrogen powered bus to date. The bus marks the first of a fleet of fifteen funded by a $38.7 million dollar grant from California state transportation agency.
"It's over here at the Humboldt Transit Authority's bus yard in Eureka. And we're here for the ribbon cutting for our new hydrogen bus, which is right behind me. So I'm the board chair of the Humboldt Transit Authority, not only after you were here today to celebrate essentially, and to tell people about this bus and the new technology that we're bringing online here in Humboldt. So the emissions from the sparks are just pure water, which is really exciting. This is something that we're doing to meet California climate goals and for our communities climate goals," said Natalie Arroyo the Humboldt County 4th District Supervisor.
Because of the spread out and rural nature of Humboldt County there was not a Hydrogen bus with the long range capabilities suited for our region. that is until a new model was designed specifically for the county.
"We were trying to find a bus that fit the, the roots of a rural area, and there wasn't one that fit. You know, we our busses are out there, you know, 350 miles every day. And there wasn't a bus that did that. And so we worked with New Flier to engineer a bus that would go for 425 miles plus, and then this bus back behind me as a result of that," said Greg Pratt the General Manager of Humboldt Transit Authority...more

(35,920 posts)2. We don't need fucking expensive flammable explosive hydrogen buses that blow up. They depend on wasting fossil fuels.
The fucking hydrogen buses have a habit of blowing up because hydrogen has worse physical properties than the dangerous natural gas from which it is made, this by destroying the exergy of dangerous natural gas, reducing its energy value.
Note the asshole media is complicit in sharing the bullshit scientifically illiterate claim that hydrogen is "green." It isn't. It's a filthy and dangerous fuel, essential on an industrial scale for ammonia manufacture, but far too fucking dangerous to be a consumer product.
Hydrogen is made overwhelmingly from dangerous fossil fuels and shell games are destructive, not green, not clean, not sustainable, and all of the bullshit slick videos put out by dangerous fossil fuel marketeers will not change that fact.
A Giant Climate Lie: When they're selling hydrogen, what they're really selling is fossil fuels.
