The Oakland Education Association called off its strike for May 1, the union announced Wednesday.
Teachers had previously announced the one-day walkout after alleging that the district was withholding financial information they needed to bargain over the impact of recent budget and staff cuts. On Wednesday morning, OEA announced a tentative agreement had been reached.
Moving forward, we urge the District to include the Oakland Education Association as a true partner in shaping decisions that impact our schools, students, and their families, said OEA President Kampala Taiz-Rancifer.
The OUSD board had called a special meeting Tuesday evening that included closed-session discussions regarding negotiations with OEA and the districts other labor unions. OEA and OUSD appeared to be in bargaining sessions late Tuesday night.
