WASHINGTON — Cheered for his pro-union stance and promise to rework the tax code, President Joe Biden picked up a major endorsement Wednesday from North America’s Building Trades Unions, a massive labor organization now committing resources in the battleground states of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
The Democratic leader received multiple standing ovations at the union’s Washington, D.C., conference, during which he jabbed former President Donald Trump, a Republican, for not delivering on infrastructure and giving tax breaks to wealthy corporations.
Alluding to Trump’s time as host on NBC’s “The Apprentice,” Biden said Trump “learned that telling people ‘You’re fired’ was something to laugh about.”
The phrase is “no joke,” Biden said to loud cheers, “especially being fired because you had no protection. Folks, I guess that’s how you look at the world from Mar-a-Lago, where Trump and his rich friends embrace the same failed trickle-down policies that have failed working class families and union families for 40 years.”
