We need to track alternative, reliable sources for this data! And support those who will be filling important roles during this bleak time.

Another tip: Check food packaging for the marks that mean its been deemed Kosher. Its an indication that someone independently is taking an active interest in maintaining a level of quality in the product. The manufacturer has paid some big $ to obtain this status and they are in no rush to lose it.

(11,864 posts)For about 12 years, I worked in and around military recruiting as a Naval officer.
One thing I learned over and over again, is that if the Navy made their recruitment goal easily and quickly, the economy was probably not doing well. If the Navy failed to make goal, the economy was doing outstanding.
This does not apply to the other services or the Marines. The Army usually never makes goal because they need so many people but sometimes they change the goal numbers to give them a win. The Marines are a brand that is highly specific and only attracts a certain type of person. And the Air Force has a waiting list. They need less people and provide outstanding educational and morale opportunities for enlisted.
Yeah, for the Navy it is the reverse of what most people expect. But people join the Navy in droves when the job market sucks because the Navy has large numbers to fill and does provide educational opportunities that are easily transferred to civilian jobs.
Right now the Navy made their annual goal 3 months ahead of time. Our economy is in serious trouble.

(7,045 posts)I'm a frequent lurker on the employment/job search boards on Reddit to track what's happening in the labor market (used to do that for universities). Their experiences are absolutely bleak. They are electronically shut out of the market altogether by applicant screening systems. I'm seeing tales of people submitting hundreds to thousands of resumes with no responses from humans. (TBH, they may be spamming job boards). I"m glad that the military can absorb a bunch of folks. The education and training is really good.
A lot of young folks are flocking to join ICE. Those are some of the best-paying jobs out there right now for non-college educated people. What a way to have to survive - becoming gestapo.
I've been following Ron Hira for years. He's a good labor economist who has been calling BS on industry announcing labor shortages in tech and/or other occupations. I think the real data will be called by individual researchers at this point, but I don't have a long list.

(11,864 posts)Pretty early too. Now there was probably some numbers game going on there. The Army doesn't want to look worse than the Navy and with a dick tater like pedo Trump it's not good to look to be in 2nd place.
But still for the Army to even get that close to goal so soon is showing the civilian labor market is not providing jobs.
Thanks for the link.
