John Kerry now a grandfather...

BOSTON (CBS) – U.S. Sen. John Kerry is now a grandfather.

Vanessa Kerry, the youngest of Kerry’s two daughters, gave birth to a baby boy named Alexander Kerry Nahed, according to Boston.com.

In a statement to WBZ-TV, the 68-year-old Kerry expressed his excitement.

“Senator Kerry feels excited and blessed, proud of Vanessa and Brian, and safe to say it was an Easter they’ll always cherish as a family,” said Kerry spokesperson Whitney Smith.

Vanessa Kerry, 35, is married to Brian Vala Nahed, a neurosurgeon at Mass. General Hospital.

Sen. Kerry already has step-grandchildren through his second wife, Theresa Heinz-Kerry, the report said.

Congratulations to the parents.

I've always thought the Senator would make the best grandpa, to step-grandkids or biological ones.

Here's hoping the proud parents and their little one are doing well.

All the 2004 photos of him with babies happy to be in his arms. . others of him reading, cross-legged on the floor, to enraptured kindergarten kids..For a lot of politicians, these moments are awkward, painfully fake, or both (see: W).
But for Sen. Kerry, it's always looked to me that he's in his element, and there is a comfortable and natural, two-way bond.
Alexander is lucky.
Fantastic choice of birthday, too!

And I knew Vanessa was a doctor, but not that she is a neurosurgeon, probably the toughest thing to be as a doctor.

I've been away and had trouble configuring this for reply while I was gone, but I've been rejoicing ever since this was first posted. I agree with everyone here that JK must be a fantastic grandfather and I think Vanessa will be a wonderful mom, too! I'm thrilled for Vanessa and Brian and for JK and THK, too. Little Alexander is joining a very loving family (and I bet his Aunt Alexandra is very happy, too!)
