(769 posts)For some reason, Milwaukee suburbs have bucked the trend of all suburbs nationwide by continuing to be very Republican. Most suburbs have trended blue under Trump. If Milwaukee suburbs follow the national trend or even just get to 50/50, Wisconsin would no longer be a swing state, it would be comfortably Democratic.

(36,782 posts)but I was born there (Ripon) and lived there for 2 decades (until I graduated from UW-Madison). It's an interesting state. I was always aware that I lived in the birthplace of the republican party, but there was also a very strong progressive strain with LaFollette and also labor strength with the unions during the industry years. The paper mill unions, esp., were very strong fifty years ago.
The state went for Trump, but I'm also not surprised to see the people wake up to him and toss him out. Congratulations, Wisconsinites!
