Days before election, Dane County Board taps candidate for vacant seat
Each of the 37 County Board seats is up for election this spring, and one race is already heating up after a candidate was appointed an interim County Board member, raising criticism about the countys process for filling vacancies.
County Board Chair Patrick Miles appointed Amy Larson, a retired Navy captain and Middleton Workforce Housing Committee member, to represent District 15 on the board through the end of the term. The district represents parts of Middleton and some neighborhoods on Madisons far west side.
Larson was sworn in last week, days ahead of a Feb. 17 primary election. The appointment passed the full County Board by a supermajority vote, with disapproval from one board member and another candidate running against Larson for District 15.
The seat became vacant late last year after April Kigeya resigned. Kigeya has said on social media that her family planned to move out of the district, which made her the second board member within a year to step down due to housing changes. Kigeya held the District 15 seat since 2022.
